Iodine
deficiency is a common problem in many caged birds but is
especially common in the Australian birds. The Australian
birds seem to need more iodine than other pet birds.
Iodine is required for the proper functioning of the
thyroid gland. Deficiencies can result in poor feather
condition, difficulty molting, breathing problems, reduced
singing, reduced activity and poor breeding. Liqui-Kelp
provides the additional iodine needed by the Australian
finches. Just 2-4 drops per quart of drinking water
provides the additional needed iodine and eliminates
the balding that is so common in Lady Gouldians. |
